FLASH

In late 1971, FLASH came into existence when Colin Carter (vocals) approached Peter Banks with the idea of forming a new band. At the time, Peter was navigating a challenging phase in his career. Given his past experiences with other bands, he was initially hesitant about starting anew. However, their collaborative effort on “Small Beginnings” rekindled his passion. After creating a demo of the track, Peter secured a record deal. The duo then embarked on the challenging journey of assembling the right team. The band’s lineup was solidified with the addition of Ray Bennett on bass and Mike Hough on drums. Interestingly, it was Peter who coined the band’s name, “FLASH”. Opting not to include a keyboardist, Peter innovatively honed his guitar skills, crafting the distinctive sound of FLASH. Their musical journey was intense and brief; they produced three albums in a span of two years, before disbanding in November 1973.

Original line-up
Peter Banks | Colin Carter | Ray Bennett | Mike Hough

I saw Flash in Peterborough, I do remember how great the sound was and a great atmosphere.
    Was it really in 1973…?

Flash opened for Wishbone Ash in Ocean City on August 10, 1973. We were right up front and it was an amazing show. I remember this night vividly. Good times!

  4. Flash’s 14 Sep 1972 gig was at Radford College, Radford VA, with “The Divots” opening and “Blue Oyster Cult” headlining.

Where did Peter Banks go and what did he do when he left the band ?

  6. A good buddy and I saw them at the Springfield, Mo. concert. Venue was a ‘had been’ or was ‘soon to be’ a bowling alley on Glenstone, can’t remember which one. Sadly, very few people attended but Flash put on a good show. A local band called Aqua Fox opened. Didn’t realize till now that was 6 days before they disbanded.
